Information Commissioner warns political parties on data protection

In a move which must surely be welcomed by privacy advocates, the Information Commissioner's Office has issued a statement warning UK political parties to ensure they comply closely with data protection laws throughout the upcoming election period. There are few more personal issues than one's voting intention, a piece of information millions of people have voluntarily handed over to 'canvassers' from political parties at election time.
