The hyper-regulation of the alcohol industry

Six organisations related to alcohol withdrew their support for the governments new “responsibility deal” on alcohol today, just a day before it was due to be announced. The groups claim the Government is not being tough enough on the industry, but the timing looks designed to get maximum publicity rather than improve regulation. Despite government and industry coming together and creating a variety of voluntary agreements on issues such as promotions and labelling, these groups demanded the Government go even further.
