A lot of American businesses think that all they have to do is open a store in China and millions of Chinese profits will come rolling through their doors. Wrong!
Business was so slow at Barbie store in Shanghai that Mattel pulled the plug and closed the store. I think that Mattel’s mistake was a failure to adapt it successful business model to local tastes. Barbie has always been a blond but the last I looked, there weren’t a lot of blond haired girls running around China.
