Bahrain Opposition Leader Warns Against Foreign Interference

[ rfe/rl banner ]

March 30, 2011

Bahrain's Shi'ite opposition leader Sheikh Ali Salem today urged Iran to keep out of his country's internal affairs.

Salem also demanded the withdrawal of foreign troops deployed in Bahrain, warning against the kingdom being turned into a "conflict zone" between Saudi Arabia and Iran.

About 1,500 troops from Saudi Arabia and other Gulf states entered Bahrain two weeks ago on the Sunni monarch's invitation amid antigovernment protests by the majority Shi’a.

Bahrain's government charges that Shi'ite Iran orchestrated the month-long unrest in which more than 20 people were killed.

Iran condemned the foreign military deployment and the crackdown against the protesters.

China Moves To Save Libyan Leader As Russia Warns Of ‘All Out War’

An “urgent” dispatch from Russian Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) chief Mikhail Fradkov to President Medvedev that is circulating in the Kremlin today says that the Chinese warship Xuzhou is preparing to offer protection to Libyan leader Muammar Abu Minyar al-Gaddafi and his family to protect them from assassination from the US-led air assault on that North African Nation.

In what this report calls a “stunning betrayal” by the West, Russian leaders say their abstention in the United Nation Security Council vote to establish a no-fly zone over Libya to protect its civilian population from both Gaddafi and rebel forces is, instead, being used by the West to engineer their takeover of Libya’s vast oil and water resources, and which we had previously warned about in our March 8th report, “Global Resource War Warned Has Begun Between East-West.”

Even though Chief of the Russian General Staff Nikolai Makarov had previously warned that foreign military intervention in Libya could trigger an all-out war with the West, his warnings have fallen on deaf ears as British Defense Secretary Liam Fox said the direct targeting of Gaddafi was “possible” and British submarines fired two missiles at the Libyan leaders compound in downtown Tripoli bringing number of civilians killed by the West to 48 with over 150 wounded.

After the West’s massive killing of Libyan civilians Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman Alexander Lukashevich called for the immediate halt to the US-led attacks against Libya, a call that was joined by both China and India who just days before these attacks were said to be considering offers to drill for Libyan oil.

China’s most important political newspaper, The People’s Daily, further warned that the United States and its allies are violating International rules and that in places like Iraq “the unspeakable suffering of its people are a mirror and a warning” and the military attacks on Libya are, following on from the Afghan and Iraq wars, “the third time that some countries have launched armed action against sovereign countries.”

The Arab League’s secretary general Amr Moussa, also condemned the West by saying, “what is happening in Libya differs from the aim of imposing a no-fly zone, and what we want is the protection of civilians and not the bombardment of more civilians.”

Most astounding in all of these events is the crazed hypocrisy of the West, who at the same time they are massacring the very Libyan civilians they said they were going to protect, they are, at the exact same time allowing their favored Arab allies to kill every unarmed protester they can with no words of condemnation or threat of retaliation.

Especially gruesome of these “approved” civilian massacres was US-backed Yemeni dictator Ali Abdullah Saleh ordering military snipers to fire into the heads of unarmed protesters gathered by the tens-of-thousands and killing over 50 of them, an act so barbaric his own powerful tribe called for his immediate removal, but with no condemnation from Western leaders.

Equally as gruesome were the brutal attacks against civilians engineered by the US-backed leader of Bahrain, who called in Saudi Arabian forces to quell the growing protests against him and that were condemned by UN Secretary General who in a statement “expressed his deepest concern over reports of excessive and indiscriminate use of force by the security forces and police in Bahrain against unarmed civilians, including, allegedly, against medical personnel.”

Though the people of Bahrain have made an urgent appeal to the US and UN to help protect them from further government massacres, an appeal sure to fall on deaf ears as best explained by George Friedman, publisher of Stratfor Global Intelligence, who told the Boston Herald today, “We’re not going to mess with Bahrain, because we’re not going to get into a fight with the Saudis, who support the current structure, and because it is where the United States keeps its (Indian Ocean) fleet.”

Not being told to the masses of Western peoples about their governments attacks on Libya is the backlash that is building among all of the Arab Nations who see these decadent hypocrites for what they truly are, madmen who lust only for oil, power and wealth at the expense of their right to freedom and opportunity.

Most ominous in all of these events regarding Libya was the end time prophecy written about it by the great French seer Michel de Nostredame (1503-1566) (Nostradamus) who in Century 1 Quatrain 9 wrote:

From the Orient will come the African heart/to trouble Hadrie and the heirs of Romulus./Accompanied by the Libyan fleet/the temples of Malta and nearby islands shall be deserted.

According to French author and Nostradamus scholar Jean-Charles de Fontbrune, in his 1983 book Nostradamus: Countdown To Apocalypse (page 287) the “King of Kings” Libyan leader Gaddafi is the man who will unite the Arab World against the West according to this prophecy and begin an apocalyptic Global War that will bring our whole World to the brink of collapse.

Most interesting to note about Fontbrune’s referring to Gaddafi as the “King of Kings” was that he did it in 1983, a full 25 year before August 29, 2008 when at a meeting of more than 200 African kings and traditional rulers he was, indeed, given that exact title.

As we had previously noted in our March 17th report “Virgin Mary Issues Grave Warning, But Angel Says US Can Be Saved,” the prophetic warnings being handed down to us by our ancestors are being ignored at our peril, and nowhere is this more evidenced than in the United States, whose people we noted in our report “Shroud Of Silence Descends Upon America As End Nears” are being kept from the true horrors about to descend upon them as their crazed leaders lead them ever closer to the abyss.

My response to the leader of Hull City Council

The publication of our annual “Town Hall Rich List” always manages to ruffle a few feathers. Matthew Sinclair wrote about this last Thursday, and I was accused of presenting misleading information too. I always find this amusing, as the figures we quote come directly from councils’ accounts and from Freedom of Information requests. Are some councils trying to say their own figures are misleading and incorrect? Or is perhaps they don’t want their electorate (bearing in mind many councillors are seeking re-election in May) to know the truth?

Last Thursday, I was interviewed on BBC Radio Humberside. All four councils in the Radio Humberside area declined to come on air and make their case, although North Lincolnshire Council did make a statement accusing us of ‘tarring all councils with the same brush.’ Once again, all we have to go on is the information publicly available in North Lincolnshire Council’s accounts, and the information they give us through the Freedom of Information Act. This is something I reminded listeners of.

As a result of my interview, the leader of Hull City Council, Carl Minns, decided he was going to take to the airwaves and attempt to rebut by complaints. As I have not been given the opportunity to publicly answer the points he made, I will do so here. I did have a meeting with Cllr Minns later in the day, and cleared up some points, although – naturally – the public is not aware of this, and have been left with the impression what he said on air was correct. Here are a few points he raised listed in bullet points, with my reply beneath each one.

The TPA has double counted posts and called redundancy payments a pay rise.

Not true. We included all those people with incomes above £100K a year (including pension contributions). Yes, if some posts were vacated and filled by someone else mid-year, it is possible for a job to be counted twice. The important thing to remember is two different people who were doing that job each received remuneration above £100K. We also did not call redundancy payments a ‘pay rise’. We made it clear this was remuneration. After the £364K payment to Sue Lockwood in the East Riding of Yorkshire Council last year, it is important we know how much of our money is paid to individual officers.

In all fairness to the TaxPayers’ Alliance, they do put that information (regarding redundancy payments) in the small print, but it wasn’t said on the show today, and it won’t be said by the national TaxPayers’ Alliance.

Again, not true. There isn’t any small print. It is displayed in the same font size and all the information can be read easily in the same column. We are not trying to hide anything.

Andrew has been on this show and congratulated the council for cutting the wage bill and the number of senior posts

This is true and I made that point during the interview. My criticism of the council was that some of those senior employees still in post were receiving pay rises.

Andrew Allison says it’s in the accounts. I urge every listener to go to the council website – hullcc.gov.uk. This information is publicly available.

Cllr Minns should have checked his own council’s website before he went on air. If he had he would have found pay rises for the Chief Executive of (the now defunct) Hull Forward, the Director of Building Schools for the Future, the Head of Finance, amongst others. (This information can be found on pages 32-33 using this link). Yes, there has been much restructuring done, and this has brought down the overall cost of senior pay, but while lower paid workers have not seen their pay increase, some (not all) senior officers have seen their pay increase. As I said in the interview, how can anyone say to the public we are going to cut your services; say to their staff you’re not going to get a pay rise, and at the same time  get a pay rise themselves?

The pension scheme is decided nationally.

While this is true, it is also true that Hull City Council pays around 25% in employer pension contributions, with the East Riding Council paying just over half of that figure, with all money being invested in the East Riding Pension Scheme. Hull taxpayers are paying hundreds of millions of pounds more than their East Riding counterparts mainly due to Hull City Council approving unaffordable early retirements in the past. One of the arguments of such a generous pension scheme in the public sector is public servants are paid less than their private sector counterparts. Then we hear that senior council officers should be paid high salaries to stop them joining the private sector. Like millions of people, I fund my pension through my own income. No-one tops-up my pension to the tune of thousands of pounds a year. This is a benefit that must be included when arriving at a figure for total remuneration.

It’s a pity Cllr Minns decided not to debate with me live on air. If he had done, we could have cleared up all the points he raised, however I find none of our local politicians are willing to come into the studio with me. Instead they get interviewed separately, or hide behind press releases. When councils do the right think, or attempt to do the right thing, I will support them; as I have done on previous occasions, but when services are being cut, and some senior officers still receive pay rises and bonuses, the TPA will not remain silent.

Chechen terrorist leader calls for holy war against Russia

Chechen terrorist leader Doku Umarov has called on Russian Muslims to launch a holy war against their government in a video published Friday on the website kavkazcenter.com.

‘Destroy the enemies of Allah, open up the fronts,’ Umarov said. The terrorist claimed responsibility on the same website for the January bombing of a Moscow airport in which 38 people died.

The Kremlin had declared ‘total war’ on the North Caucasus with its military operations there, Umarov continued.

In the nine-minute video, in which the bearded 46-year-old is flanked by two armed companions and which appears to have been filmed in a snow-covered wood, he also announced further attacks.

In a previous message Umarov had already threatened Russia with ‘a year of blood and tears.’

Authorities are particularly worried about the possibility of attacks before the 2012 presidential elections and the 2014 Winter Olympics in the Black Sea city of Sochi.

Radical Islamist groups in the Caucasus, a region which includes the Russian republics of Dagestan and Ingushetia, have been fighting for years for the establishment of a ‘Caucasus emirate.’

There are frequent clashes between pro-Russian forces and Islamist militants. On Friday a high-level member of the internal security services, the FSB, was killed in a shoot-out in Dagestan.
