SuperBug NDM-1 found in Drinking Water

superbug-ndm1-resistant-to-antibiotics
Back in August of 2010, it was reported that a SuperBug strain called NDM-1 (New Delhi metallo-beta-lactamase-1), had been discovered in the UK with links back to India. Today, in April of 2011, the ‘Lancet infectious Diseases journal’ reports that bacteria carrying the NDM-1 SuperBug has been discovered in the drinking water supply of New Delhi.
The Health Protection Agency has warned that 88 cases have been recorded so far.
The director of the HPA said that modern medicine will crumble if antibiotic-resistant strains overtake the ability to perform even simple and common procedures where the role of antibiotics fighting infections are crucial for recovery. “It’s vital to grasp that fighting the emergence of resistance is fighting evolution itself” said Dr. David Livermore.
There are barely a handful of antibiotics currently in the pipeline to fight antibiotic resistant bacteria. “The worldwide spread of genes resistant to last-resort antibiotics is a nightmare scenario” the World Heath Organization has said.
The WHO said the abuse of antibiotics for people and the abuse within the food chain is threatening to take the world to an era before the discovery of penicillin in the 1920's.

Found: 70 Anceient Books, possible earliest image of Jesus Christ

[What subject stirs up more disagreement than the Christian Holy Bible? Authenticity of artifacts discovered from the time of Christ, i.e. the Shroud, etc. ...]
"...The debate over whether these booklets are genuine and, if so, whether they represent the first known artefacts of the early Christian church or the first stirrings of mystical Kabbalah will undoubtedly rage for years to come. The director of Jordan’s Department of Antiquities, Ziad al-Saad, has few doubts. He believes they may indeed have been made by followers of Jesus in the few decades immediately following his crucifixion..."

70 metal books found in Jordan cave could change our view of Biblical history

Revelation: Experts speculate that the tablets could be the lost collection of codices referred to in the Bible's Book Of Revelation.

For scholars of faith and history, it is a treasure trove too precious for price.

This ancient collection of 70 tiny books, their lead pages bound with wire, could unlock some of the secrets of the earliest days of Christianity.

Academics are divided as to their authenticity but say that if verified, they could prove as pivotal as the discovery of the Dead Sea Scrolls in 1947.

On pages not much bigger than a credit card, are images, symbols and words that appear to refer to the Messiah and, possibly even, to the Crucifixion and Resurrection.

Adding to the intrigue, many of the books are sealed, prompting academics to speculate they are actually the lost collection of codices mentioned in the Bible’s Book Of Revelation.

The books were discovered five years ago in a cave in a remote part of Jordan to which Christian refugees are known to have fled after the fall of Jerusalem in 70AD. Important documents from the same period have previously been found there.

Initial metallurgical tests indicate that some of the books could date from the first century AD.

This estimate is based on the form of corrosion which has taken place, which experts believe would be impossible to achieve artificially.

If the dating is verified, the books would be among the earliest Christian documents, predating the writings of St Paul.

The prospect that they could contain contemporary accounts of the final years of Jesus’s life has excited scholars – although their enthusiasm is tempered by the fact that experts have previously been fooled by sophisticated fakes.

David Elkington, a British scholar of ancient religious history and archeology, and one of the few to have examined the books, says they could be ‘the major discovery of Christian history’.

‘It is a breathtaking thought that we have held these objects that might have been held by the early saints of the Church,’ he said.

But the mysteries between their ancient pages are not the books’ only riddle. Today, their whereabouts are also something of a mystery. After their discovery by a Jordanian Bedouin, the hoard was subsequently acquired by an Israeli Bedouin, who is said to have illegally smuggled them across the border into Israel, where they remain.

However, the Jordanian Government is now working at the highest levels to repatriate and safeguard the collection. Philip Davies, emeritus professor of biblical studies at Sheffield University, said there was powerful evidence that the books have a Christian origin in plates cast into a picture map of the holy city of Jerusalem.

‘As soon as I saw that, I was dumbstruck,’ he said. ‘That struck me as so obviously a Christian image. There is a cross in the foreground, and behind it is what has to be the tomb [of Jesus], a small building with an opening, and behind that the walls of the city.

‘There are walls depicted on other pages of these books too and they almost certainly refer to Jerusalem. It is a Christian crucifixion taking place outside the city walls.’

The British team leading the work on the discovery fears that the present Israeli ‘keeper’ may be looking to sell some of the books on to the black market, or worse – destroy them.

But the man who holds the books denies the charge and claims they have been in his family for 100 years.

Dr Margaret Barker, a former president of the Society for Old Testament Study, said: ‘The Book of Revelation tells of a sealed book that was opened only by the Messiah.

‘Other texts from the period tell of sealed books of wisdom and of a secret tradition passed on by Jesus to his closest disciples. That is the context for this discovery.’

Professor Davies said: ‘The possibility of a Hebrew-Christian origin is certainly suggested by the imagery and, if so, these codices are likely to bring dramatic new light to our understanding of a very significant but so far little understood period of history.’

Mr Elkington, who is leading British efforts to have the books returned to Jordan, said: ‘It is vital that the collection can be recovered intact and secured in the best possible circumstances, both for the benefit of its owners and for a potentially fascinated international audience.’

*British scientists have uncovered up to eight million mummified dogs, thought to have been sacrificed to Anubis, the god of the dead, 2500 years ago after excavating tunnels in the ancient Eygptian city of Saqqara.

Plutonium Found In Fukushima, TEPCO Executive Says "Radioactive Substance Shouldn’t Have Any Impact On Human Health"

Shit just got real. The spin? It is not harmful to human health. Oh really? We can't wait for Kan to eat some plutonium on national TV to confirm this. In the meantime we await the retraction from TEPCO claiming they made a mistake and they really meant platinum not plutonium.

Plutonium has been detected in soil at five locations at the crippled Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant, Tokyo Electric Power Co. said Monday.

The operator of the nuclear complex said that the plutonium is believed to have been discharged from nuclear fuel at the plant, which was damaged by the devastating March 11 earthquake and tsunami.

While noting that the concentration level does not pose a risk to human health, the utility firm said it will strengthen monitoring on the environment in and around the nuclear plant.

Meanwhile, high levels of radiation exceeding 1,000 millisieverts per hour have been detected in water in a trench outside the No. 2 reactor's building at the nuclear plant, with the contaminated water suspected to have come from the reactor's core, where fuel rods have partially melted, authorities said Monday.

The government's Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency said the electric power company, known as TEPCO, is expected to pump out similarly highly contaminated water that has been building up in the basement of the No. 2 reactor's turbine building, which is connected to the trench, to eventually remove the water.

The company said the high radiation level in water in the trench connected to the No. 2 complex was detected Sunday, adding that the radiation level in the air in the trench stood at 100 to 300 millisieverts.

At a radiation level of 1,000 millisieverts per hour, people could suffer a decrease in the number of lymphocytes -- a type of white blood cell -- in just 30 minutes, and half could die within 30 days by remaining in such conditions for four hours.

TEPCO also found Sunday afternoon that the radiation level at the surface of the trench water adjacent to the No. 1 complex was 0.4 millisievert per hour. But it could not measure the level at the gutter linked to the No. 3 unit as rubble prevented the firm from checking it, the company added.

Although it remains unknown whether the contaminated water has flowed into the sea from the trenches that are 55 to 70 meters away from the shore, TEPCO suspects the high concentration of radioactive substances found in seawater near the plant reactors' drainage outlets may be linked to the trench water.

Earlier in the day, the nuclear agency said radioactive iodine-131 at a concentration 1,150 times the maximum allowable level was detected Sunday in a seawater sample taken around 1.5 kilometers north of the drainage outlets of the troubled No. 1-4 reactors.

Haruki Madarame, chairman of the Nuclear Safety Commission of Japan, a government panel, told reporters he is ''very worried'' about the high-level radiation detected in water in the trenches, which is outside the radiation-controlled area set by TEPCO.

March 28 (Bloomberg) -- Tokyo Electric Power Co. found plutonium contamination in soil near the Fukushima Dai-Ichi nuclear plant that was tested, Sakae Muto, vice president at plant operator, said at a press conference shown on a webcast today.

The plutonium probably came after the accident at the reactors following Japan’s strongest earthquake and tsunami, he said. The radioactive substance shouldn’t have any impact on human health, he said.

Fear not: TEPCO will bravely continue to sacrifice its workers even after this discovery. Per Reuters:

Attached is a report from the ANS on why this discovery means that Reactor 3 is compromised.

Personal data found on second-hand mobiles

The proliferation of companies offering money in exchange for old mobiles has seen thousands of people search their homes for unwanted phones, hoping to cash in. However, there is a serious security risk involved in handing your phone over to unknown companies. A study by the data protection company CPP has revealed that over half of every second hand phone or SIM card sold online contains sensitive personal data. 54% contained credit or debit card details, PIN numbers, login details for websites, passwords, phone numbers and company information. This is despite the fact that 81% of those surveyed claimed they...

U.S. research team says it has found Atlantis in Spain

Wonder of the ancient world or fantasy? The story of the fabled Atlantis has captivated humanity for centuries.

It has remained a tantalising mystery for thousands of years, but now a U.S. led research team believes it has found the legendary lost city of Atlantis.

They claim to have pinpointed the exact location of the metropolis under mud flats in southern Spain.

The team of archaeologists and geologists are convinced that Atlantis -swamped by a tsunami – is submerged just north of Cadiz.

Professor Richard Freund of the University of Hartford, Connecticut, who lead the international team, said: ‘This is the power of tsunamis.

‘It is just so hard to understand that it can wipe out 60 miles inland, and that’s pretty much what we’re talking about.’

The team used a satellite photo of a suspected submerged city to find the site then surveyed it with a combination of deep-ground radar, digital mapping, and underwater technology.

Buried in the vast marshlands of the Dona Ana Park they found a strange series of ‘memorial cities,’ built in Atlantis’ image by the refugees who fled the destructive tsunami.

Atlantis residents who did not die built new cities inland, claimed Freund.

Grab from internet mapping tool Google Earth of an underwater grid site off the coast of west Africa that was initially thought to be the lost city of Atlantis.

The team’s findings will be unveiled on Sunday in ‘Finding Atlantis,’ a new National Geographic Channel special.

Freund said the ‘twist’ of finding the memorial cities makes him confident Atlantis was buried in the mud flats.

He said: ‘We found something that no one else has ever seen before, which gives it a layer of credibility, especially for archaeology, that makes a lot more sense.’

Greek philosopher Plato wrote about Atlantis some 2,600 years ago, describing it as ‘an island situated in front of the straits called the Pillars of Hercules.’

These pillars were known as the Straits of Gibraltar in bygone times.Using Plato’s detailed account of Atlantis as a map, searches have focused on the Mediterranean and Atlantic as the best possible sites for the city.

Freund says tsunamis in the region have been documented for centuries with one of the largest reported in November 1755 hitting Lisbon with a 10-story tidal wave.

Debate about whether Atlantis truly existed has lasted for thousands of years. Plato’s ‘dialogues’ from around 360 B.C. are the only known historical sources of information about the iconic city.

Plato said the island he called Atlantis ‘in a single day and night… disappeared into the depths of the sea.’

Experts plan further excavations at the site where they believe Atlantis is and at the mysterious ‘cities’ in central Spain 150 miles away to more closely study geological formations and to date artefacts.

Atlantis has been ‘discovered’ many times in the past.

In 1997, Russian scientists claimed to have found it 100 miles off Land’s End.
Three years later, a ruined town was found under 300ft of water off the north coast of Turkey in the Black Sea.

An American architect used sonar in 2004 to reveal man-made walls a mile deep in the Mediterranean between Cyprus and Syria.

In 2007, Swedish researchers claimed the city lay on the Dogger Bank in the North Sea, which was submerged in the Bronze Age.

And as recently as February of this year, what appeared to be grid-like lines that resembled city streets were spotted on Google Earth – in the ocean off the coast of Africa.

Sadly Google itself quickly debunked the suggestion, explaining that the lines were left by a boat as it collected data for the application.

SWEDEN: Politician found NOT GUILTY of offending Muslims for naked Muhammad poster

Posted: March 12, 2011 | Author: barenakedislam | Filed under: Islamization of the West | 27 Comments »

Civil Liberty –A Swedish politician has been found not guilty of agitation against an ethnic group (Muslims) by a jury in Malmo in southern Sweden after he produced a poster depicting a naked Muhammad with his nine-year-old wife, Aisha.

Carl P Herslow, the leader of a small populist regional party in the Scania province, admitted producing the poster but said the aim of the poster was to encourage debate about Islam’s compatibility with democracy and equality, rather than insult Muslims.

After deliberating for less than an hour, the Malmo jury, which are only used in Sweden for freedom of speech cases, told the court that the courageous politician was not guilty of agitation against Muslims.

About 30% of Malmo’s inhabitants are of foreign origin, predominantly Muslim, and even without counting second generation immigrants, this puts Malmo as the Swedish city with the most immigrants per capita.

Pyramids found in Antarctic now

Well now there’s talk all over the internet about pyramids in Antarctica. What appears to be causing all the discussion is this picture:

antarctica pyramid 200x112 PYRAMIDS IN ANTARCTICA NOW?

Frankly, I think we’re looking at plain ordinary mountains here, albeit ones of unusual apparent symmetry. But suppose we ARE looking at pyramids (and I think the size of these mountains would preclude that, but that’s just me), or, to put it differently, supposed there WERE pyramids in Antarctica? What would it mean?

Well, for one thing, it would confirm the speculations of many Atlantologists (including, incidentally, the Nazis), who believe that the ice-covered continent was in fact Atlantis, the continent literally being “sunk” under water, in this case, ice. The presence of such structures would raise the bar considerably not only for Atlantology but also for the possible motivations of the Nazi expedition in late 1938 and early 1939, and make it likely – if they discovered such structures during their aerial reconnaissance flights over the southern continent – that they decided to follow up with further investigations.

The reason any discovery of such structures on Antarctica would be significant is rather obvious, for the possibility would be quite strong that if they could be excavated (a mighty big if in Antarctica’s case!) the sites might yield some significant records or artifacts of a lost human past. One might even speculate that the discovery of ancient records and technologies might be considered a top prize. Such a discovery could rationalize not only the curious Nazi expedition, but also the postwar attempts not only to internationalize the continent but to keep the curious visitor OUT of the continent.

While I remain skeptical at this moment, the story is nonetheless worth watching, providing, of course, that we don’t get the usual mix of internet hysteria and hype (and yes, already the story has been predictably linked to extra-terrestrials and secret Nazi flying saucer research bases. Some people never learn….)
