And there shall be Signs in the Sun, and in the Moon, and in the Stars;

and upon the earth distress of nations, by reason of the confusion of the roaring of the sea and of the waves;

A List Of 28 Things That Will Make You Think That There Is Something Seriously Wrong With This Country

What in the world is happening to America?  Perhaps you have asked yourself that question from time to time.  Today it seems like everything is falling apart.  Our economy is crumbling, our politicians are incompetent, we have just gotten involved in another war, corruption is everywhere and the Americans people are so addicted to entertainment that hardly anything can wake them from their stupor.  It is enough to make you think that there is just not much hope for America.  But the truth is that we should never give up.  It is when the times are darkest that the greatest heroes arise.  We truly do live in challenging times, but that just means that there are great victories to be won and great stories to be written.  There may be a whole lot of things that are very wrong with America right now, but that doesn't mean that the game is over quite yet.

Unfortunately, right now most Americans are completely asleep.  Just like during the declining years of the Roman Empire, most people that live in the U.S. are spoiled, decadent and completely addicted to entertainment.

The following is how many Americans actually plan their weeks....

Monday: Watch Dancing With The Stars

Tuesday: Watch The Dancing With The Stars Results Show

Wednesday: Watch American Idol

Thursday: Watch The American Idol Results Show

At this point, most people in this country cannot even intelligently discuss the pressing issues of our day.

In fact, 63 percent of Americans between the ages of 18 and 24 cannot find Iraq on a map and 90 percent of Americans in that same age group cannot find Afghanistan on a map.

We've got a lot of work to do.

America is in sorry shape and it desperately needs some heroes.

The following is a list of 28 things that will make you really think that there is something seriously wrong with this country....

#1 According to the Economic Policy Institute, almost 25 percent of U.S. households now have zero net worth or negative net worth.  Back in 2007, that number was just 18.6 percent.

#2 According to the Pentagon, the cost of the first week of attacks on Libya was 600 million dollars.

#3 The major food producers are shrinking the sizes of their packages so that they won't have to raise prices.  The New York Times recently did a story about one woman who was absolutely shocked when she started keeping track of shrinking package sizes at her local supermarket....

Ms. Stauber, 33, said she began inspecting her other purchases, aisle by aisle. Many canned vegetables dropped to 13 or 14 ounces from 16; boxes of baby wipes went to 72 from 80; and sugar was stacked in 4-pound, not 5-pound, bags, she said.

#4 It is being projected that for the first time ever, the OPEC nations are going to bring in over a trillion dollars from exporting oil this year.  Their biggest customer is the United States.

#5 According to a recent census report, 13% of all the homes in the United States are sitting empty.

#6 20 percent of all the electricity in the United States is produced by nuclear power plants.  Many of those plants are very similar to the damaged reactors at the Fukushima nuclear complex in Japan.

#7 Barack Obama promised us that radiation from the nuclear disaster in Japan would not be a problem in the United States, but already it has shown up in milk in Spokane, Washington.

#8 Dallas Federal Reserve Bank President Richard Fisher recently said the following....

"If we continue down on the path on which the fiscal authorities put us, we will become insolvent, the question is when."

Of course the Federal Reserve system was designed to get the U.S. government trapped in perpetual debt so actually he should be blaming himself and his friends over at the Fed.

#9 China produced 19.8 percent of all the goods consumed in the world last year.  The United States only produced 19.4 percent.

#10 Back in 2005 at the peak of the housing bubble, the median property tax on a home in the United States was $1614.  Today, even though home values have sunk like a rock, that figure has risen to $1917.

#11 In New Jersey, home owners pay an average of $7576 in property taxes every single year.

#12 According to the Federal Reserve, the adjusted monetary base has nearly tripled since mid-2008.

#13 Thanks for all the money printing Bernanke - according to one unofficial estimate, the U.S. in on track to have an 8.3 percent rate of inflation for the year.

#14 According to a recent article posted on the website of the American Institute of Economic Research, the purchasing power of a U.S. dollar declined from $1.00 in 1913 to 4.6 cents in 2009.

#15 The Ogallala Aquifer stretches from South Dakota to Texas, it is the largest underground supply of fresh water in the world, and it is rapidly running dry.  So how is "America's breadbasket" going to continue to produce massive amounts of food for the rest of the world once that happens?

#16 The number of homes that were actually repossessed reached the 1 million mark for the first time ever during 2010.

#17 The U.S. industrial base has disintegrated so badly that we could literally export our entire manufacturing output and still not balance our trade with the rest of the globe.

#18 Goldman Sachs almost always wins.  According to a recent regulatory filing, Goldman Sachs lost money on just 25 days in 2010 and on only 19 days in 2009.

#19 In 1994, the top 1 percent of all income earners paid 25 percent of all state taxes in New York.  Today, the top 1 percent of all income earners pay 41 percent of all state taxes in New York.

#20 The National Institutes of Health has spent approximately $442,340 to study the behavior of male prostitutes in Vietnam.

#21 According to an absolutely stunning recent poll, 40 percent of all U.S. doctors plan to leave the profession at some point during the next three years because of Obamacare.

#22 If the new health care law is so great, then why is the Obama administration allowing so many organizations to opt out of it?  According to the Department of Health and Human Services, more than 1,000 organizations have received Obamacare waivers so far.

#23 Large American cattle farms actually feed chicken manure to cattle because it is so cheap and because we produce way too much of it to properly dispose of as fertilizer.

#24 Every single year, Americans spend approximately 7.6 billion hours preparing their taxes.

#25 The IMF says that in order to fix the U.S. government budget deficit, taxes need to be doubled on every single U.S. citizen.

#26 Mandatory federal spending is going to surpass total federal revenue for the first time ever in this fiscal year.  That was not supposed to happen until 50 years from now.

#27 Today, the U.S. national debt is over 14 times larger than it was back in 1981.

#28 According to the National Inflation Association, when you factor in the unfunded liabilities of the U.S. government, total federal debt obligations now come to a grand total of 76 trillion dollars.

The Gold Mining Business Model’s the Best There Is for Any Industry

Precious metal stocks are looking good in this market. This is a sector that needs rising spot prices for stocks to keep advancing, but the money continues to tumble in if you’re a gold producer. In fact, the business model is so good that most growing producers don’t know what to do with all their excess cash (what a great problem to have!).

The economic news out there still isn’t great, but the stock market doesn’t seem to care. Equity investors seem only worried about first-quarter earnings and the outlook for the numbers remains very bright.

Also looking good in this market are precious metal stocks, as spot prices remain very strong. This is a sector that needs rising spot prices for stocks to keep advancing, but the money continues to tumble in if you’re a gold producer. In fact, the business model is so good that most growing producers don’t know what to do with all their excess cash (what a great problem to have!).

As an example of the kind of profitability you can find in the precious metal sector, Avion Gold Corporation (TSX/AVR) is but one junior mining company that’s cashing in due to strong gold prices.

Avion Gold is a junior Canadian gold miner with exploration and production facilities in West Africa. The company holds 80% of the Tabakoto and Segala gold projects in Mali. Avion Gold announced strong earnings of 18.63 million dollars ($0.05 per basic and diluted share) for the three months ended December 31, 2010. This compares to net income of 3.97 million dollars, or $0.02 per diluted share, generated in the same quarter last year.

According to the company, it sold 27,908 ounces of gold at an average realized price of $1,370 per ounce, which represents a 10% increase over the average realized selling price of $1,234 per ounce in the previous quarter. Gold revenues were 38.2 million dollars, compared to 14.2 million dollars in the comparable quarter of 2009.

Where I’m from, a business that sells 38 million dollars’ worth of goods and generates over 18 million dollars in profits on those goods is really doing something right. Avion Gold produced 26,090 ounces of gold in the fourth quarter of 2010 at a total cash cost of $520.00 per ounce. For all of 2010, the company generated record earnings of 31.5 million dollars, or $0.09 per share, compared to 2.6 million dollars, or $0.01 per share, in the prior year. Total revenues were 115.3 million dollars compared to 33.6 million dollars in 2009 and total production grew to 87,631 ounces of gold. This year, Avion Gold expects to produce about 100,000 ounces of gold and the company is still predicting production of 200,000 ounces a year in 2012.

This gold stock is just one in a large universe of junior mining companies that are making money hand over fist with gold prices over $1,000 an ounce. It’s a great business model and it’s likely to stay that way for a considerable period of time.

Investing in gold has always been a risky business, because you can’t control how much gold is in the ground and what’s going to happen to the price of the commodity on the open market. All you can do as an investor is play the market as it is. In my mind, however, it’s no different than investing in a technology company. The risks are the same and so is the unknown.

There is no such thing as 'defenceless'.

Nice house when it's not obscured by wicker-smoke.

A spontaneous night off last night. One of the side effects of clearing the crap-hole that is my garage/workshop is finding things I'd forgotten about. I found a box of DVDs I thought I'd lost forever. A few Red Dwarfs, some Vincent Price hamtastics, the John Hurt version of 1984, the Wicker Man with Ed Woodwoodwood and more. So I was fully videoed out last night.

Today I considered talking about the budget but this one has been leakier than a shotgun-treated sieve so everyone already knows. Smokers get another kick in the nuts, no surprises there and no concern here. I don't buy mine from the taxed shops. Man with a Van will increase his prices because criminals don't do things for the benefit of others, they do it for profit. Like politicians. He will increase his price, maintain his price differential and do more business than ever. The more they clamp down on smokers, the better the criminals will do. Well, with a bit of luck, this time next year I'll be starting on my own crop and I can ditch Man with a Van too. I think I'll also try Rose's mead with the apple starter, perhaps refined with an isolation on Sabouraud-dextrose agar followed by alcohol acclimatisation because well, it's my job. I think I might also build a wicker man in the garden, just in case it's ever needed for something.

Sod the budget. It's all fiddling around with other people's money, no matter who is in charge. Ozzy will still give money to the Dreadful Arnott and Donkey Shagger so they can sneer at and denormalise those he's taken the money from to give to them. Nothing will change, at least nothing that actually matters.

Instead, let's have a little story.

A long, long time ago in a place far, far away, there lived some peasants. These peasants had no money because they were taxed on the basis of how much they earned so the more they earned, the more they paid. As a result, nobody ever managed to save any money because no matter how hard they worked and how much they earned, they ended up with the same amount anyway.

Now it would seem obvious that they should do the least amount of work needed to earn enough to live on after tax. Of course it's obvious. Why would anyone bust a gut to get the same pay as Lazy Keen Meng who sleeps under his coolie hat half the day and picks a tenth of the rice everyone else picks? The clear result must surely be that everyone works at the pace of the slowest. The word of the day would be Mae win-ti, every day.

Ah, but the peasant-owners have Enforcers, equipped with very sharp swords and bows and really snazzy armour and the peasants aren't allowed any weapons. The Enforcers make sure the peasants work as hard as possible even though the pay is actually the same whether they try or not.

Oh, but these peasants must surely revolt? They must rise up and overthrow their masters, it must surely be so? Ah, but remember, peasants cannot own weapons. No weapons at all. Not even defensive ones. So what can these peasants do?

In that land, long ago and far away, the peasants learned to fight without weapons. They learned to use themselves, and anything available, as a weapon. Today we call their methods by names such as 'karate' and we think it's all very cool and trendy to learn. We think 'numchucks' are a fancy weapon when really they are a tool to dehusk rice. We think the three-pronged short swords look really cool when they are just tools for lifting hay.

The peasants learned to fight back using the things they were already proficient at using. Their hands and their tools. Dehusking rice with a flail is dangerous if you don't have control of the flail - but when you do have control, it can dehusk more than rice.

The peasants were not allowed to own swords or bows or knives or any weapons at all. They did not become weak and subservient. They learned to turn the everyday, and themselves, into weapons.

Banning weapons achieves nothing more than a redefinition of 'weapon'.

So what of today? What do we have? Computers? Well, blogs have become weapons of a sort but they are a weapon the peasant-owners can simply switch off. It's not as easy as they would like, as Egypt discovered, but it's a weapon that can be at least easily blunted. It doesn't help much against a backstreet mugger, either, unless you have an early Amstrad laptop that was heavy enough to brain a rhino.

The old saying, 'the pen is mightier than the sword' is self-evident bollocks to anyone who owns both. Even if you have a really good Parker pen filled with the best Windsor and Newton ink, the sword will win every time. Even if it's a first-time sword user against Shakespeare and his well-practised quill skill. However, 'the pen is easier to hide than the sword' is always true.

I have carried a steel-barrelled pen on every flight I've been on and nobody has ever even questioned it. Try getting on the same flight with those Inquisition-style eyebrow curling devices. The worst you could do is give someone unusually curly eyebrows. With a deft push and twist, a pen (even a cheap Bic) could be right through your heart in a second. A HB pencil will work just as well, even better as they can be sharp, and they come with rubber ends so you don't even bruise your palm.

There are places you can hit a human body that will cause pain, unconsciousness, disability (temporary or permanent) even death, agonising or instant. You don't have to be Chuck Norris to do it. The papers often have stories of someone who 'killed with one punch' when it's clear they didn't intend to. They just hit the right spot by bad luck. They should still be punished anyway, because they are too stupid to realise just how much of a weapon they are.

As should those who ban weapons. Give someone a gun and they might miss or inflict a flesh-wound. Give them a sword they don't know how to use and they are more at risk of being cut than the one they're attacking. Likewise a knife. The best way to fight with a knife is not to use the knife. If you hold it in your left hand, way out from your body, your opponent is focused on the knife and will never see the right hook coming.

I'e never taken a self-defence class. I learned the hard way, which isn't recommended because although it's quickly effective, it does hurt a lot and can cost a few teeth. Favourite line from a long-ago dentist visit - 'There are gaps in these teeth that aren't in your record' 'Yeah, well, I don't always win'. I still have my unnaturally big canines, and I'm pleased about that. They've got me out of a few potential fights over the years.

I also learned from friends who worked as pub bouncers and were taught what not to do. Now, if you come at me with a knife, it'll likely end up in your chest with only your fingerprints on it. My fingerprints will be on your hand and elbow.

I have never set out to harm anyone. All I have ever been interested in is in learning ways to not have the crap kicked out of me. So far I have never come across anyone persistent enough to need a total stop.

So I can't carry a gun. I don't care, I don't own one and never have. What troubles me about the ban is that every backstreet mugger can be certain I don't have a gun on me. I didn't have one anyway but before the gun ban, they couldn't be sure. Now they can.

Burglars now know I have no gun in the house. Muggers know I have no Crocodile Dundee blade up my shirt. Both know I have no defensive weapons because all forms of self-defence are illegal. As is interfering with a criminal in the course of his duty.

And so history turns on a wheel. Once again we are denied all weapons, and denied the right to defend ourselves. Once again we are the peasants pressed down by the enforcers.

Out there, everywhere you look, are the means to defend yourself. Often, it's the thing your assailant holds in his hands. Or the cigarette you're smoking, the paper cup of hot coffee, the pencil in your pocket.

You take the risk in defending yourself. Sometimes you lose and you take the dents. If you wake up breathing then on some level you've won.

If you give in and bow down every time then on every level, you've lost.

“…there is no greater truth than global warming, with its threat of a shrinking snowpack…”

Alpine Meadows Webcam at Gunners Knob 7:05 AM Mar, 21

Guest post by Russ Steele

I am sure that you all remember this article in the San Francisco Chronicle in October of 2006.

(10-27-2006) 04:00 PDT Norden, Nevada County — For the ski industry, both in California and rest of the nation, there is no greater truth than global warming, with its threat of a shrinking snowpack and the point that Yogi Berra once made so succinctly: “The future ain’t what it used to be.”

If nothing is done to curb emissions, greenhouse gas emissions could raise Sierra temperatures another 5 or 6 degrees by the end of the 21st century, according to some projections. The snowpack could be reduced by 89 percent.

It all came rushing back to be when I read this on the Alpine Meadows web site:

Current Snow Conditions: Alpine is Closed – Too much snow to safely enjoy. (Extreme Avalanche Danger and High Winds)

Right now it looks like the Alpine Meadows could use some global warming to stay in business.

===============================================================

UPDATE: It looks like the winds have subsided enough, as of 6:37AM with an update Monday morning they have removed the warning, after all, they don’t want all the heavy snow to scare customers away. Here’s the current snow depths:

And here is the current welcome message:

Jim Berkland was right. There was a Quake

From the Halls of Montezuma,To the shores of Tripoli

Happy Nowruz! We are Numerically and Karmically screwed. The Persian new year and the Super Moon Perigee event have taken place within the same harmonic window right along time-shift from Pisces to Aquarius. For you uninitiated out there this means we are in for big KaKa. Mega-quakes, revolution, money problems and big War are in the stars.

Bas-relief in Persepolis. A Zoroastrian symbol of Nowruz – on the vernal equinox the powers of the eternally fighting bull (personifying the Earth) and lion (personifying the Sun) are equal.

Say again please. Eternally fighting Bull getting ass chewed by a Lion.

Translate =Israel [Lion] is going to attack Iran [Bull]

Also note SUN attacks EARTH. Great symbolism. Maybe a X-39 class solar flare…

Analysis: All of the Mideast is going to swing into the Persian camp just because the WEST has screwed up so much. Arabs hate Persians more than they hate Jews and Americans… and that is saying a lot. NATO and Specifically the United States could have and should have killed Qaddafi weeks ago, before he slaughtered thousands of innocent people.

Americas sin is not using too much power… it is not using enough power when the time is right. We all get that Iraq and Afghanistan were big mistakes. But it is time to move on. Qaddafi and his kin should be sucking sand right now somewhere in the Northern Sahara. This guy is a murderer and Terrorist.

Will Libya turn into another quagmire? Yes… by default anything to do with European allies and Arabs turns into a Clusterfukk for the U.S.

Will there be a major quake in USA in last days of March?

March Mega Quake Warning Issued for United States
March 9, 2011
Sorcha Faal

A new report released today in the Kremlin prepared for Prime Minister Putin by the Institute of Physics of the Earth, in Moscow, is warning that the America’s are in danger of suffering a mega-quake of catastrophic proportions during the next fortnight (14 days) with a specific emphasis being placed on the United States, Mexico, Central America and South American west coast regions along with the New Madrid Fault Zone region.

This report further warns that catastrophic earthquakes in Asia and the sub-continent are, also, “more than likely to occur” with the 7.3 magnitude quake in Japan today being “one of at least 4 of this intensity” to occur during this same time period.

Raising the concerns of a mega-quake occurring, this report says, are the increasing subtle electromagnetic signals that are being detected in the Earth’s upper atmosphere over many regions of the World, with the most intense being over the US Western coastal and Midwest regions.

Important to note are that Russian and British scientists are at the forefront of predicting earthquakes based on these subtle electromagnetic signals and have joined in an effort to put satellites in space to detect more of them.

More ominously in this report are Russian scientists confirming the independent analysis of New Zealand mathematician and long-range weather forecaster, Ken Ring [photo 2nd left], who predicted the deadly Christchurch quake and this week issued another warning of a quake to hit on or about March 20th.

Ring explains his methodology for predicting earthquakes as follows:

“The planets very much affect the earth, indirectly, by having an effect on the Sun. Some planets are very large. If the Sun was a basketball the gas giants Jupiter and Saturn would be the size of grapefruits, and the Earth would be, on that scale, the size of a peppercorn.

Jupiter and Saturn cause extra tides on the Sun when they get on either side of the Sun (as with Moon - Earth-Sun when the moon is full) and when these gas giants get on the same side as the Sun, (as with Earth -Moon - Sun when the moon is new). These greater solar tides become sunspot activity and solar flares and can be understood as akin to the increase in tides caused by the Moon when it too gets alongside Earth or opposite Earth.

At the moment we have Jupiter and Saturn on either side of the Sun and creating a tug of war with Earth in the middle. That started last September and will continue until about May. In September the Earth was right in line with Jupiter, Saturn and the Sun too.

That's why there were several 7+ earthquakes around, it wasn't just us. For instance there was one in Pakistan on the same day as Christchurch. This Jupiter/Saturn alignment continues until about May, and the Earth comes back into line as well in March. It is why there may be an extreme event, perhaps a large earthquake, around 20 March, which is when the Moon may be again in a trigger position.”

According to this report, however, where Ring is correct in assessing blame for our Earth’s earthquakes on the Sun and Planets, his substituting of Perigean Spring Tides (also known as King Tides) for the low pressure systems associated with them may be incorrect.

The mention in this report of massive low pressure systems being associated with catastrophic earthquakes is especially dire to the United States Midwestern region, which even today is continuing to be pounded by horrific rainfall amounts, and most especially impacting the New Madrid Fault Zone State of Arkansas which has suffered over 800 earthquakes in the past 6 months alone.

Equally in danger, this report continues, is the South American Nation of Bolivia which has, likewise, suffered catastrophic low pressure system storms that in the past week have killed over 52 people.

Look! Over There!

Everything is still up in the air here at Puddlecote Towers, so just popped in to offer a couple of recommendations.

Firstly, in the week that Lansley's health paper talked of further hiking of sumptuary taxation despite a noticeable increase in smuggling and counterfeiting (if you haven't yet seen Monday's Panorama, it is worth a watch), the Quiet Man points to the same consequence as a result of ideological climate change policies.

Referencing this Beeb article on a proliferation of cut-price hookey electricity pre-payment cards being touted by criminal gangs, he assesses the situation very sagely.

Over the last 13 years ever since governments got heavily into the climate levy scam, electricity and gas prices have risen well above that of inflation and this affects those particularly at the bottom end of the financial scale who struggle from week to week juggling their budgets and making decisions as to heat the house, top up the car or have something other than beans on toast as their main meal for once. So if someone comes along and offers a £10 top up for £5 what do you think is going to happen?

It will be unregulated uncontrolled and at times illegal and yes people will get caught, it won't stop others from doing it though and new scams will develop as the people doing it get more sophisticated.

Quite.

It's also time for me to do a Shaw Taylor and ask you to 'keep 'em peeled' for more anti-smoker delinquency. There is still plenty about, as proven by Longrider and VGIF. If someone out there wished to caricature the insane, mouth-frothing mentality of a smoke-hater, they couldn't make it any more jaw-dropping than the arguably insane individual they have highlighted.

Lastly, my official theologian offers a concise roundup of recent righteous scapegoating, well worth a read.

Friday looks to be a lot less hectic, so I'll recuperate tonight with a Hamlet and a bag of ice for a public sector-induced frazzled head and hopefully come back with more end of week vigour tomorrow.

Is There No End To The Financial Insanity?

The last forty years have seen record levels of insanity in the financial sector. Drunk on the possibility of “making money”, individuals with no thought to the impact on the lives of the real human beings on this planet, have demonstrated a willingness to do anything to make a quick buck. “I wish they’d get this war started,” one such person said to me just prior to Blair’s invasion of Iraq.

Over the decades we have seen bubble after bubble expand and burst. We’ve seen currencies attacked. We’ve seen banks collapse as a result of fraud, and the taxpayer bail them out, as a result of treason.

And today, we see the stock market back up over the 6000 mark, despite the fact that the real economy is dead, and Britain produces a mere fraction of its historic output. How can this be?

The truth is, it’s as a result of yet another bubble. But this bubble is going to hurt us all in the long term. This is the bubble, that as it expands will kill millions of people through starvation. This is the bubble which is going to create price inflation, while at the same time, currencies are collapsing.

This is the commodities bubble, and yet again, it is based on fraud.

An Exchange Traded Fund (ETF) is a pool of money; an investment fund. You give your money to the company which manages the fund, and they give you shares in the fund. The shares are traded on the stock markets like any other stock.

The value of the EFT is generally considered to be the net asset value of the assets owned by the fund. However, there is opportunity for speculation. If there is stong demand for a particular ETF, its price on the market might rise above the net asset value of the assets held by the fund for a short period. This gives institutional investors and hedge funds the opportunity to speculate during that short period of time.

Historically the assets held by an ETF would be stocks, bonds and other financial securities. Gradually things started to get a bit more complicated, with ETFs investing in derivatives. But in the last few years, companies managing ETFs have begun to invest in commodities.

Initially it was precious metals, but now its everything – gold, platinum, palladium, silver, copper, zinc, nickel, tin, oil, wheat, corn, cotton, sugar, soybeans … the list goes on …

And here’s the danger – whereas in the past, ETFs have held futures contracts, now they are starting to store physical product.

Make no mistake, this is a bubble, and it is fraudulent.

Market participants are attempting to control the supply chain at the same time they are also investing in futures markets.

To understand the scale of this, the Wall Street Journal reported at the end of December that a single entity, widely suspected to be JPMorganChase, that it now controls 90% of copper traded on the London Metals Exchange. That is approximately 50% of global supply.

So here we have an institution which has one department controlling supply of a product, while at the same time it has traders in other departments trading the futures markets!

How many others are there? Isn’t that insider trading?

Another entity, suspected to be MorganStanley, controls 90% of the London Metal Exchange’s aluminium. Another controls somewhere between 50% and 80% of nickel contracts; another 50% to 80% of zinc. And so on. You get the picture.

As a result – hold on to your hats – food prices which have been steadily rising throught 2010, rose by 18.3% in the week ending 25th December 2010. That’s in one week.

Now this kind of control of the raw materials that are used in the manufacturing industry is bad enough. But when it is extended to the basic necessities of survival – wheat, for example – then it gets really serious. Now we are talking about these people killing other human beings for profit.

Almost a billion people suffered from hunger in 2010, which was a rise of 150 million over 2009. When are we going to stop standing by and watching while others suffer so that someone with too much money can pay for a new yacht?

I leave you with a quote given to the Daily Telegraph by a trader concerned by these physically backed exchange traded funds:

Metals like copper are in intense demand. By buying futures contracts, investors have never impacted the physical cost or supply of copper. But allowing investors to hoard physical supplies is the equivalent of allowing investors to sit on warehouses of wheat while Tesco is short of bread.

In Britain, we can probably survive a shortage of bread. I’m not certain how many countries in sub-Saharan Africa have that luxury.

STOP  BEING TRIBAL- THATS’ COSTING LIVES!!
