Daily Walk: That I Might Know Him

Philippians 3:10 that I may know Him and the power of His resurrection, and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death…

The greatest achievement of every soul of men is that they might know God and have fellowship with Him.

A person may gain the entire world by financial success, attain fame and notoriety, experience every pleasure that this world has to offer, but if they should miss God, they have gained nothing.

Jesus came for the sole purpose that all people born on the earth might have the supreme privilege of enjoying unending fellowship with God and to know Him. When Philip asked Jesus to show him the Father, Jesus told all the disciples that the one who has seen Jesus has seen the Father:

John 14:9 Jesus said to him, “Have I been with you so long, and yet you have not known Me, Philip? He who has seen Me has seen the Father; so how can you say, ‘Show us the Father?’ “

There are only fleeting moments when anyone enjoys a few minutes of true fellowship with the Father. Our days are crowded with efforts to please ourselves, and gain as much happiness for our wanting soul as we can possibly obtain. We run to and from over the earth looking for a measure of satisfaction, while total fulfillment beyond our wildest imagination is already within us.

John 14:20 At that day you will know that I am in My Father, and you in Me, and I in you.

John 15:4 Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me.

If you have taken Jesus as your Lord and Savior, then He lives within you. The power that you need for your life is dwelling within your body at this very moment. To enjoy unending fellowship with the Lord is already present within your life, all that is needed is the desire.

2Corinthians 13:5 Examine yourselves as to whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Do you not know yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you?

Paul wrote that his constant and earnest goal was to simply “Know Jesus”. He found that by his own suffering, during those moments, he realized what Jesus went through for Him.

It is the purpose of God that we might know by experience, the sting of tribulation and suffering in our bodies, that Jesus felt. It is in those moments if intense trial that we begin to understand how alone, how frightened and full of sorrow Jesus was in the garden of Gethsemane as the Father turned away from His Son who was made sin for us.

Today in our walk with Jesus, may we cry out within our soul to simply know Jesus in a more intimate way, above all the other activities and goals of our life. If we must suffer today, we should realize that when that suffering is upon us, it is only a taste of the suffering that Jesus endured for each one of us.

“Lord, today, we just want to know You and have a deeper and closer fellowship with You. Help us to place You first in every area of our life. To honor You with what we say and do today, and to endure our moments of suffering with understanding that You also suffered so much for us.”
